Thinking about dream is exciting for me because it is a lot of possibilities. Although some part of me is still a bit doubtful. After closing or making peace with the past, this process is slightly easier. How about you? Have you decide on what to do? I have a mix feeling on whether you or me should share our dreams or not. I think it is similar like setting your goal. Some people actually suggest to share your dreams to people, so that you’ll be motivated. Some other people suggest that you should not share it to anyone.
It’s up to you which one you prefer, as for me, I learn from Michael Hyatt, in his best year ever course, to share selectively. I’m trying to share to the people that are close to me and encouraging. The reason being is to let yourself to dream freely. To not limit it or have more doubt because of those nay sayers.
Dreaming itself is a fun process, but I know in the current age, there might be a lot of distractions that comes into your ways. before things get messy, these are some steps on what to do in the process:
1. Spend time to dream
Dreaming takes time. It will be worth your time. but in order to do it, you can do it now, or schedule it. I am a believer now that whatever you schedule will gets done. The other reason why you need to spend time is to pour your mind out. Our brain is really amazing. when you pour it out, it will give every possible things that you might not think before. And remember, write your dreams down. your mind might be able to give you more when you are not holding it in your mind. when you pour out, you’ll let your mind to be free and make you more creative in making dreams. besides, it is also possible that after some time, after you learn something new, it trigger your mind to dream something else.
Set intention and thoughts to your dream. It is better to make dreams that define you. There is time when we heard or read other people’s dream, it sounds nice and we want that also. and there is a time also when your parents tell you who you should to be. They want the best for you. ponder upon that thoughts and process it. If you found out that it ignites your passion and excitement, that might be for you. If it makes you scared or afraid, it still might be for you. You are considering the possibilities and not sure what to do. it will stretch your mind whether it’s worth to pursue or to delay. A lifetime is too short to live your own dream, don’t live other people’s dream. Having said that, please write it down too. You’ll never know that now is not the right time to ponder about that. It will be revealed in the future.
2. Don’t limit your dream
Don’t try to limit your dream. Just let your mind be free and a bit realistic. Dreaming about to be able to fly like superman might be unrealistic, although yes, you can write it down. Think about if you don’t have money and time issue, what do you want to be?
It is better to have big dreams rather than having small dream. It will make you to grow more in life. Another criteria would be to dream something that will fulfill your calling. I believe that God created us in a unique way that no one else can do or can be who we are and who we will be. You might not believe that, that is up to you. I just want to give a sense of a purpose even in the dreaming process. Dreaming about something that will benefit for others will be more fulfilling rather than just for yourself.
3. Prepare yourself
After you set your dream, do what you can today. Dream will only be dreams when you not doing anything on that. Keep growing yourself in character and skill. By that, you’ll be able to reach your dream. What you do today will determine your future. And your today will be energized by your hopes and dreams of the future.
Don’t worry about how much time that you have. The next best time to do something is now. As long as you live, you have time to make a difference. A few months ago, I read an article about a young mrt (train) driver who made unique messages in the train. “Since its a Thursday today, what you do today will determine whether tomorrow will be a ‘thank goodness it’s Friday’ or ‘oh goodness, it’s Friday’”. the same will be for today. since today is a present, what you do will determine what you will be tomorrow.
What other things/thoughts that you might need to dream? Please share your thoughts so that we can learn together
